Division, what happens next?
Generally speaking, the owner of the property is
given a pre-determined amount of time to correct the violation.
If necessary, the Waste Services Division and the Will County State's
Attorney's office will file a complaint against a violator that will
be heard in court.
Can I burn my garbage?
No, it is a violation of State law and County ordinance
to burn household garbage.
Who is my waste hauler?
Will County has no restrictions regarding waste
haulers in unincorporated areas of the County. Residents and businesses
may utilize any waste hauling company they desire.
How do I get rid of household chemicals and paint?
Household chemicals should be used up to avoid any
problems with improper disposal. However when it is not possible
or desirable to use the chemicals, residents may bring the materials
to a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event. HHW
collection events are held at various places and dates throughout Will
County.
The City of Naperville operates a permanent HHW
facility that is open on weekends. Click

Oil-based paint is accepted at both the HHW collection
events and the Naperville permanent facility. Latex paint is not,
because it is not considered a hazardous material. Latex paint
should be used up, allowed to harden in the paint can or with kitty
litter and disposed of with your regular garbage.

Used tires should be turned in to the retailer who
sold you your new tires. The Waste Services Division holds periodic
tire collection events at various places and dates throughout Will County.

Landscape waste may be left on the lawn to decompose,
composted on-site or bagged and placed with your weekly garbage.
Contact your waste hauler for specific information about their landscape
waste collection procedures.

The Prairie View Recycling and Disposal Facility
is located on the site of the former Joliet Army Ammunition Plant.
