What is the process to obtain a building
permit?
In order to ensure that building projects are
consistent with local codes and regulations, applicants must get approval
from the Will County Land Use Department and submit the appropriate
application forms for approval by the Land Use Department, the Will County
Health Department, or possibly other agency approval. Contact the

Yes, the Will
County Building Ordinance requires a permit for any new roof, siding or
replacement windows.
How much does a building permit cost?
The cost of a building permit depends on the
type of structure desired, value of the construction project, the square
footage of the structure and other factors. Contact the Building

How many sets of blueprints are required?
Three (3) sets of the building and/or
structural plans stamped by a registered design professional are required
for most projects.

been reviewed, approved and is ready for pick up.
How long does it take to get my building
permit?
All building permits are reviewed by the Will
County Building Division. The length of time necessary to obtain a
building permit depends on the number of permit applications being reviewed,
the complexity of your application and whether your application is complete.
Generally speaking, the turnaround time for a building permit is 10-15
working days.
Does my contractor need to be registered,
licensed and bonded?
Yes, contractors and sub-contractors must be
registered with the Will County Building Division. Click

All plumbers and electricians must be licensed with the State of Illinois.
Why do I need concrete foundation for my
shed?
The Will
County Building Ordinance requires a concrete foundation underneath a
shed.
Can I request a specific time for an
inspector show up at my construction site?
No, inspections are scheduled at least 48
hours in advance, but no specific time can be guaranteed.
